Rocklin Build Green Initiative

	Rocklin - Green is a voluntary program to promote environmental protection through building and remodeling with a more sustainable approach. We encourage contractors, developers and homeowners to build and design residential homes and commercial building space to increase energy and water efficiency. Resources include the Build it Green organization for residential projects, and the U.S. Green Building Council - LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for non-residential projects.
	Build it Green is a professional non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy and resource efficient buildings in California. Build it Green fosters collaboration with local governments, agencies, community and stakeholder groups to accelerate the adoption of green building practices, policies, and programs. Build it Green has developed residential green building guidelines and rating systems (GreenPoint Rated) for new single- and multi-family construction and remodeling. The guidelines offer suggestions for conserving natural resources, using water and energy wisely, improving indoor air quality, and site planning for livable and vibrant communities. A GreenPoint rated home is graded on five categories: 1. Energy Efficiency 2. Resource Conservation 3. Indoor Air Quality 4. Water Conservation 5. Community If the home meets the minimum point requirements in each category and scores more than 50 points, then it earns the right to bear the GreenPoint Rated label. GreenPoint homes are rated by independent, certified raters to ensure the rating has integrity and value.
	The U.S. Green Building Council - LEED is a rating system developed by the USGBC to assess the environmental sustainability of building designs. LEED is a point-based system whereby points are earned for building attributes considered environmentally beneficial. LEED standards are currently designed for commercial, although residential standards are being developed.
